1. Why am I getting Out of Memory errors?

In order to make the program as fast as possible, we use RAM extensively to cache the thumbnail images. If you have lots of photos, this can mean that quite a bit of memory is used.

To give the Java VM more memory, you can use the -Xmx switch. For instance, to allow the VM to use 512 MB, use -Xmx512m.

The OSX package is set to use more memory by default. You can modify this by editing Info.plist.

  2. Why doesn't this stupid program work?

You need to have Java 1.5 installed for PhotoDirectory to work. If you are running OS X, you need to have Tiger installed and the Java 1.5 update installed. If you are running on a different platform, please consult the documentation for that system.
